Algarve Elderly Wintering

The elderly in Portugal

Some older people spend the winter in Albufeira or Monte Gordo. These places are often busier and the surroundings less picturesque than Praia do Carvoeiro. Carvoeiro and Benagil are in the boroughs of Lagoa and Portimão. The gently rolling hills and green character of this area and the villages with their sandy beaches are popular for older visitors. They seek both activity, relaxation, and rest. Facilities for the older visitor are good.

For those who are less mobile, there are more and more initiatives to make the municipality attractive. Portimão, for example, has a recently built path for the disabled that was recently constructed. The 6 km Rota Acessível de Portimão. The wheelchair accessible path runs through the town, past shops, and amenities, including the police station and the library. Moreover, the path is easily accessible from our flat Vila Arade.

LAGOA.

Lagoa, which also includes Carvoeiro and Benagil, is a municipality in the Algarve where the villages have largely kept their authentic character. The municipality organises all kinds of events. Such as the famous Fatacil, the annual fair where Portuguese old crafts, wines, and delicacies are presented in around 300 stands. Music and folklore accompany the fair and it is a must for anyone who wants to find out what Portugal has to offer. For those who want to immerse themselves in artistic activities, there is a cultural centre in Lagoa. And why not visit one of the gypsy markets, a flea market or a car boot sale event in the Lagoa area.

Lagoa.

Here the musical, theatrical, and art performances are held every month. They are open to everyone. And for the keen swimmer, who finds the sea in the Portuguese winter months might a little too chilly, there is an indoor swimming pool in Lagoa. Also, medical care is well available in this part of the Algarve. Pharmacies and English spoken doctors are easily accessible. There is a health centre in Lagoa where you can go for doctor consultations and minor surgery. In all of our flats and in our Vila Maria this and other practical and medical information is conveniently bundled in the house book. And of course, hostess Johanna is always available to answer any questions our wintger gueats may have.

Silves.
